SOUNDTOUCH AFTER THE CLOUD

What still works after the SoundTouch server shutdown?

Bose ended SoundTouch cloud support on May 6, 2026. The speakers did not become silent, but the original experience changed: local controls and direct inputs remain, while cloud-backed browsing and Presets no longer work as they did before.

The short answer

01

Bluetooth, AirPlay, Spotify Connect, AUX, local control, and grouping can continue where the model supports them.

02

Browsing music services and relying on the original cloud-backed Preset experience no longer works through the discontinued service.

03

Better ST adds independent radio and modern local control. Server Migration can restore physical Preset buttons for supported SoundTouch systems.

What Bose changed

Bose says SoundTouch cloud support ended on May 6, 2026. Its updated local app can still set up, configure, control, and group systems on the same Wi-Fi network, but it no longer browses music services or starts cloud content in the original way.

Bose also states that SoundTouch products will no longer receive security or software updates. Keep every speaker on a secure, private home network.

What can continue without the cloud

Available sources depend on the exact SoundTouch model, but direct playback paths remain the simplest way to keep listening without a replacement service.

  • Bluetooth and AUX on models that include those inputs
  • AirPlay on compatible SoundTouch systems
  • Spotify Connect where it remains available
  • Playback, volume, setup, and grouping over the local network
  • HDMI and optical TV audio on compatible home-theater systems

What Better ST brings back

Better ST is an independent iPhone and iPad app. It discovers compatible SoundTouch systems on your local network and provides current playback, grouping, volume, EQ, and model-specific controls.

For listening, Better ST connects to the open Radio Browser directory and can play stations directly on SoundTouch. After Server Migration, a station or Mixtape can be saved to physical buttons 1–6 so the speaker can start it without your phone.

  • Worldwide internet radio with country, genre, and quality filters
  • Restored physical Presets through Server Migration
  • Multi-Room, Super Preset, Home Screen widget, and Apple Shortcuts control
  • No separate Better ST account and no in-app advertising

Choose the next step for your system

Start by checking your model and installed firmware. If you want physical Presets again, read the Server Migration guide before changing the speaker configuration.
